State of Trucking 2026: Reading the Road Ahead [Research Guide]

2026 marks Centerline Drivers’ 7th annual State of Trucking survey. Over the past several years, these reports have tracked the transportation industry through major disruption, including the pandemic, supply chain volatility, inflation, economic uncertainty, shifting driver expectations and continued changes in workforce strategy.

Employers are balancing cost concerns with the need to keep operations moving. Drivers are still willing to work, but they are clear about what makes a job worth taking. Hiring challenges remain, but the pressure points are changing. Safety, compliance, pay flexibility and future technology are all shaping what comes next.

The 2026 State of Trucking survey shows that transportation professionals do not need to wait for the market to fully settle before acting. The warning lights are already visible. The question is whether companies are ready to respond.
